Use of cookies

A “cookie” is a small packet of data that the web server stores on the hard disk, in your computer’s browser, and can later read from there. A cookie cannot be read by any other website, only by the one that placed it.

In order to provide a higher standard of service, however, we occasionally use “cookies”.

We use cookies for administrative purposes, such as recording your settings in respect of particular data. Cookies also allow us to “remember” that you have already subscribed to our newsletter, and which options you selected in the Design Programme Builder while using it.

Although a cookie normally lives only for the duration of a single “visit”, some cookies are stored in a cookie file in the computer’s memory while others expire or are deleted. Every cookie has an expiry date. A cookie is placed in a given browser on a given computer, so if the user works from another computer the cookie will not be found there. The user may delete the cookie from their computer at any time.

Cookies – data security. Cookies cannot be used to read data from your hard disk, to obtain your e-mail address, or to obtain personal data about you. Private information can only enter a cookie file if you personally provide that information to a web server. Third-party servers cannot read or steal the contents of a cookie you have previously accepted. No cookie contains data that would enable anyone to reach you by telephone, e-mail or ordinary post. Not least, you can set your internet browser to notify you when cookies are placed, or to prevent cookies from being placed at all. Computer viruses cannot be transmitted by placing or using cookies. If, as a visitor, you wish to disable the acceptance of cookies, you can set this as well.
